Log in to www.teacherease.com and follow the directions provided by the school.
Participation - 5%
Homework - 20%
Quizzes - 30%
Tests - 45%
Participation is checked daily based on whether or not a student is actively paying attention and taking notes in class.
Homework is checked for effort and completion only. I do not expect students to get every homework question correct and do not want to discourage any students by giving low grades if they do not understand the material after a single lesson.
Quizzes and tests are weighted more heavily because this is the student's chance to show me what they learned from our lessons and homework.
Log in to my.hrw.com with your child's username and password (provided at the beginning of the school year) and click on the textbook link. From there, you can find a menu on the left side of the page. Click on the 3 dots and a print option will apear in the list. Enter the page number you wish to print. Please do not enter answers in the online textbook notes sections. If you do not have a printer, please write all work and answer on a separate sheet of paper. (There is no need to write out any word problems)
Learning can take place best when there is some background knowledge to tie the new information to. If your child watches a video on the upcoming math content, it may provide some knowledge to tie the lesson to while we learn it during class. It can also prepare your child with some questions to ask during the in-class lessons. I HIGHLY encourage all students to watch the videos prior to learning the content in class. (Videos can be found on this website as well as the book website...my.hrw.com)
1. Be encouraging
2. Show them that you are interested in their success
3. Sit with them while they do their homework
4. Ask them to teach the material to you
5. Use the videos on my.hrw.com
6. Use the videos I have provided on the "videos" page
7. Stay positive
Studying for math tests is a bit different than studying for other subjects' tests. It is much more than memorizing facts. Math is something that needs to be practiced in order to master the concepts. Therefore, the best way to study for a math test is to study/practice the material a little bit each night. Just by doing a couple practice problems each night will go a very long way to mastering the concepts.
Within our GO Math! series are ample opportunities for practice. There are "Math on the Spot' videos to watch to not only preview a lesson, but to remind ourselves how to do the math problems once the lesson has been taught. There are also "Personal Trainer" sections that provide some great practice problems to help master the math skills we are trying to learn.
I also remind my students that the "Independent Practice" pages in the textbook are some very good practice probems to prepare for a test. Often we consider these pages to be great study guides to help prepare for an upcoming test.
Students that do not have work completed by the due date will recieve a homework minor. Three homework minors in a 9-week period will result in a detention. In this detention, the student will be required to finish the missing homework.
Since my homework grades are scored as an effort grade, all late homework will be accepted at half credit.
Students who miss school with an excused absense will be allowed 2 days to complete the missing assignment at full credit. After those two days, it is considered late.
1. Respect everyone and everything at all times
2. Mistakes are an important part in learning
3. Practice makes perfect
4. Have fun!
